Given that there was a tremendous amount of information shared at the September City Youth Managers Meeting it was felt that we should publish a summary (sorry) of the items from the Community part of the meeting, this also includes Coaching and Kit. Community and Coaching Update
What’s happened during the Summer?
Small Sided Tournaments
Both the Girls and Boys Small Sided Tournaments were a great success although we do need volunteers to come forward and support these events, otherwise next years could be the last.
This year’s end of season celebration was once again sold out with all three sessions at the Alban Arena being fully supported. We are looking for a sponsor for this event to help with the costs, anyone interested please contact email@example.com.
Girls Futsal Challenge Cup
The club once again sponsored this event, held at the National Futsal Arena in Birmingham, great turnout from around the country although next year we would like more St Albans Teams taking part. Well done to Chris Johnson for organising.
Summer Coaching Camps
This year the club held the camp over four weeks, the first week was held at Margaret Wix School which resulted in a fantastic attendance. The remain 3 weeks were all held at Highfield Park, again great numbers and it also saw Sam Mardle and Sam Russell taking on the management of the camps.
At Highfield Park lots of work has taken place at Highfield since the end of last season.
The track at the entrance leading to the back field has been resurfaced, the club made a £5k donation towards the costs.
All the fields have had verti draining carried out, the new field has been sanded and reseeded. Cost to the club over £12k.
New goals on the new field, this time we have replaced those that were stolen with Steel goal posts, making them less attractive to those people who like to sell scrap!

Nicholas Breakspear Astro and Lettings Office
There is a new City Youth Banner on the Astro.
The Astro is due to have is testing carried out in early October (earliest date available).
The lettings office also has some new displays showing City Youth through the years
I would also like to thank Neil Deacon for his work in pulling together the Nicky B Astro training schedules, not an easy job, and not made any easier by the record number of teams within the club. I would just add that as teams progress through the age groups there is a need for them to go to later training slots, this allows the new younger sides to get a place on the pitch.
Club Strategic Review
Having commissioned the club review back in September last year I am pleased to confirm (as Chair of Trustees) that the review is almost complete apart from the filling of a number of Volunteer Vacancies (some are detailed later in this email) Club Trustee Brian Pyke did a fantastic job in carrying out the review and producing the final report.
The club has signed up a new Apprentice Alfie Boswell, Alfie will support the clubs School work and will also be working at Charters Health Club at Highfield Park.
Sam Mardle has completed the takeover of much of the club’s community work which this year includes a number of new Schools, these include Fleetville, Heathlands for the Deaf and St Peters.
Assistant Referee Workshop with Phil Sharp
Monday 5th September 7pm start at Nicholas Breakspear School. We have 17 people already booked so if anyone else here this evening would like to book a place please see me afterwards.
Safeguarding Children 19 September at the Herts FA in Letchworth £25 book and claim back.
FA Emergency First Aid, 8th September The Snow Centre Hemel Hempstead, only one place left. £28 to book and claim back. We are trying to source other FA approved First Aid Courses.
Level 2 Course, starting on 15th Oct, goes into January 2017

Player Development Centre (Girls)
Being run by Arsenal Ladies
Sessions restart at Nicholas Breakspear Astro in September (First Tuesday session 6th Sept, First Friday session 9th Sept). We offer training on two evenings per week…
Tuesday training sessions will take place from 5-6pm on pitch 2. This will be a free session, led by Angus Robinson and coached by our top young coaches.
Friday training sessions will take place from 6-8pm on pitch 2. Ages 7 to 12 will train from 6-7pm, with ages 13-16 training 7-8pm. This will be a paid session, directly coached and led by Angus Robinson. City Youth Keepers £30 per half term, Non City Youth £48 per half term.
October Half Term Coaching Camp
After the success of the clubs Summer Holiday Coaching Camp the next Camp, during the October Half term is being held at Nicholas Breakspear School, w/c 24th Oct (M to F), you can book online. The Holiday Coaching Camps and now being supervised by Sam Mardle and Sam Russell.
Managers Info for the New Season…….
If any managers need new Match or Training Balls etc. please contact me, I did email out 5 or 6 weeks ago but have only had 27 responses. Can I ask that if we send out an email asking for information please respond?
All equipment orders must come through me, they are then being managed by Minerva, when your orders are available I will notify you and you will need to collected them from Minerva. Please collect them quickly as we do not want to clog up Minerva’s available space (they are doing us a favour).
All kit orders are being handled by Louise Shepherd, Louise can be contacted via email on firstname.lastname@example.org
We also have a supply of kits stored at the Scout Hut.
However, many of you have managed to obtain sponsorship from a parent or company, we have had a few new sponsors come forward or about to come forward in recent weeks. We are updating our records so if managers could email us details of who their sponsors are and when they ordered their kit that will help Louise greatly.
New Players and Players on payment of their fifth Registration are entitled to a new City Youth Kit Bag. If any of your players meet this criteria then please email email@example.com and the bags will then be made available for collection from Minerva.
We did email out some time ago asking if people wanted Coaching Support. If any teams still need Coaching Support, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org who will see what he can do. Please bear in mind that there has been a good take-up with coaching support by those teams that got in first. Also with coaching support there may be a small costs to the teams.
For managers who still wish to use pen and paper for their team records we have a number of Fact Files available. If you would like one, please email email@example.com.
Minute Secretary, still unfilled, can the managers share the advert, which is on the website and Facebook, with parents.
6 A Side Tournament Coordinator, we have had 2 people come forward who can help support the event. However, we still need someone to become the Overall Tournament Coordinator.
Club Legends – www.clublegends.co.uk Photography Company, we have been contact by this company, they come along for the day and take pictures of players, separate and with their team mates. Some of the pictures they produce, which includes the club logo etc. are stunning. If there is interest I can arrange a date with the company so they can setup at Nicholas Breakspear School one Saturday and everyone can meet them for the photo shoot.
