St Albans City Youth FC - Match Reports w/e 2nd April 2017
St Albans City Youth - Boys
The Under 18 East beat Highgate & Muswell Hill 8 – 2 with goals from Joe Stockwell, Dan Miles, Gio Basile(MOM), Ewan Brand and braces from Tayler Fennel in Quarter Final of the Spring Shield.
The Under 16 West won todays penultimate home league game against Cassiobury Rangers 6-1, our goal scorers were Tom Keating, Louie Roberts, and 2 each for Kwame Youri and Zach Quinn our MOM was goalkeeper Ben Atkin.
The Under 16 North lost 3-1 away to Croxley in the league. Scorer Jack Hughes and man of the match was Olly Brett.
After a high scoring match, the Under 16 South eventually go down 6-4 away to Chorleywood Gunners. Scoring all four of the South goals was Finbar King whilst Freddie Wilkinson was named MOM.
The Under 15 North played in the WFL Spring Cup Semi Final against Brady Maccabi and it finished 5 – 1 to the Saints with goals from Billy Owen 3 and James Lawrence 2. The man of the match was Jamie Armstrong for excellent display at left and right wingback with 3 assists.
There were 2 goals from James Knapp and one from Adam Johnston plus an own goal for the 15 West as they won 4-2 at home to Croxley Green White.
Hemel Aces 5 – 2 Under 14 East. Mustaquim Boksh and Freddie Collins scored the Saints goals. This was a spirited and passionate performance against higher division opposition. The man of the match was William Bennett.
The Under 14 North won 3- 2 against Abbots Youth, the goals were scored by Louis Postema 2 and Oliver Merriden. The man of the match went to Archie Corke.
The Under 14 Central played a friendly away to Welwyn Pegasus Skys and won 4 – 2. Poor start resulted in Central trailing 2:0 at half time. A little half time shake resulted in a better second half performance with a little more energy and focus. First goal came from Calum Cornish followed by a Hat Trick from Matt Roome all set up by Calum Cornish. Man of the Match Calum Cornish.
The Under 14 South went down 0-4 against Borehamwood, very poor performance although Sam Johnston did himself proud with a great performance in the heart of the defence.
The Under 13 South lost to Watford Youth. There were goals from Sam Hicks(+ Man of the Match) and Ryan Solly.
Hemel Town 5 – 1 13 East Yellow, the Saints goal was scored by Brandon Trainis.
It was a 3-3 draw for the Under 13 East Blue against fellow club mates the Under 13 North. Scorers Daniel Gant, Tom Merritt, Charlie Battle for the East. Goals for the North there were two goals from Daniel Curran and one from Man of the match Ryan Corcoran.
The 12 East drew 0-0 with Colney Heath Martins. Man of the Match was Matthew McCree with a couple of great saves.
The Under 12 West lost 5 – 1 to Evergreen. The Saints goal was scored by Bayley Bacon and the man of the match went to Caleb Ezequiel.
The Under 11 South played Kings Langley, there were goals from Toby Joyce, George Dalton 3, Jensen Dean and James Evans. The man of the match went to Alexis Awonuga for a truly stand out performance as the defensive midfield.
The 11 Victoria turned in another impressive display beating Bovingdon Thunder 3-2 away in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final. Kayan Joseph got the visitors level after the hosts took a shock lead. Man of the match Zak Davies then scored a brace in 2 minutes after half time to put the visitors in control. Bovingdon pulled one back from a great free kick, however the Vics saw the game out comfortably and were unfortunate to not go further ahead through a great header from Kayan Joseph.
Bury Rangers U10 Stripes played the City Youth Under 10 Spartans, there were goals from Dewayne Mitchell 2, Seth Prigmore and Zevik Cowell 2.
The Under 10 Orient had a practice match involving our squad and some help from Under 10 south. It ended up 4-3 to the green team in a good football match of real quality. Goalscorers were 3 from Alex Hails. 2 from Olly Jay, and excellent finishes from James Beasley and Max Potts-Gorgue.
The Under 10 Arrows played away at Risden Wood. The team was as follows: Callum Howells, Leon Negus-Roman, Ben Browning, Sam Estell, Alfie Wollington, Max Butterworth, Oliver Jay (goal and man of the match) and Arthur McLaughlin.
U10s South produced an excellent performance against Hertford Stags. There were goals from Steven Jacobs 3, Freddie Yeo 2, Owen Weaver and James Beasley. Man of the match was Thomas Maher.
Under 10 Romans played the Under 10 Dragons. A close match with a goal from Imad Syed. Joe McLoughlin was MOM for the Dragons with a fine performance in goal.
The Under 10 Saxons played Chase Side Youth Under 10 Clarets.
The Under 9 Centurions played Welwyn Pegasus Azures there were goals from man of the match Noah West 6, 2 goals for Seth Connolly and 1 each for James McCluskey and Nikhil Patel.
The Under 9 East played Welwyn Typhoons. There were goals from Leon Rainey 2 and the man of the match went to Arthur Vessey.
The Under 9 North played Wheathamstead. There were goals from Ethan Evans and Jacob Standing 2. The man of the match was Jacob Standing.
The Under 9 Orient played Norseman away, there was a goal from Otto Meech.
Codicote Reds U8's played the Under 8 North. There was a great goal by Oscar Wells. This was a super team performance with lots of passing, movement and shooting.
The Under 8 West played Wheathamstead Tigers, there were goals from Will Stone 2, Ben Burt, Oscar Roe and Michal Glowacki 2.
The Under 8 South played Potters Bar Raiders, there were goals from Charlie Morris 3 and Ronnie Wilton.
The Under 18 Girls' unbeaten league record has come to an end after going down 5-1 at home to Bedwell Rangers in a very uncharacteristic performance! Goal scorer was Zoe Thomas and player of the match went to Kate Chamberlain.
Under 16 Girls South County Cup Runners Up 2017
The Under 16 Girls County Cup final was played at the County Ground Letchworth between Bishops Stortford and St Albans City Youth Under 16 Girls South, the game was played in memory of City Youth’s David Wray. The City girls started well and with 10 minutes to go in the first half Ellie Holder from 35 yards out, hit an absolute belter of a shot lobbing the goal keeper with an unstoppable strike. 1-0 at half time to City Youth. Bishops Stortford came out fighting in the second half and scored 3 goals one of them from the penalty spot winning the game 3-1. It was an outstanding performance by all of the City Youth Girls.
The 15 Girls lost to Garston Pumas, Bo Westcombe-Evans scored and the player of the match was Isabel Yates. The 15's also had a midweek fixture against Harvesters, which they lost 3 - 2, the goals were scored by Laura Monoghan and Hannah McCorkindale. There was a joint player of the match shared by Hayley Trounce and Captain Amy Cowan. The Saints also had a goal not given.
The 14 Girls had a 2-0 win at home in the Semi Final of the League Cup against Garston. Player of the match Mathilda Friburgh and Sam Farrer scored.
The Under 12 Girls South lost at home to Garston Pumas. Caitlin Morley was the player of the match.
After a couple of weeks without a game the Under 12 Girls North won 3-2 against Hitchin Belles. Goal scorers were Tatyana Barton, Katie Leigh and Keira Ward. POTM was Keira Ward.
Ware Rangers played the Under 11 Girls South. There were goals from Millie Fleming, Maisie Humphreys and POM Grace McMurray.
The Under 10 Girls South played Watford, there were goals from Purdy Brooks – 4.
The Under 10 Girls North played Denham United, there were goals from Scarlett Mills and Cora Baylis 1. The player of the match was Talia Joseph.
The Under 9 Girls North played away at Herts Girls FC. There were goals from Laila Brown 3, Rebecca Smith 2, Grace Gauthier 2 and Emma Bracey 2. Player of the match was Rebecca Smith.
Borehamwood 2000 U9 played the Under 9 Girls Central, it was all smiles after a fantastic display of resilience and determination from U9 Central away at Borehamwood, to keep going and finish the game with a flurry of goals. A hard working, team effort and some impressive individual skill from everyone. Great strength from Aoife Flanagan and bravery from Cordi Snelling to match Borehamwood physically. Very pleasing to see the work at training coming through in the games. Goals from Mia Di Trolio, Amy Gunn, Alicia Gibson, Lauren Viney and one from player of the match Izzy Scully. Matilda Stuart was the pick of the keepers today.
