St Albans City Youth FC - Match Reports w/e 9th January 2022
St Albans City Youth Under 14 Victoria v Enfield Town White
U14 Victoria got back into action with a league fixture today, playing away at Enfield Town White in WFL Blue Division.
A much improved performance from City saw us win out 4-1, with 2 goals and an assist from Aidan Keigher plus one each for Olly Garcia and today's MOTM Luca Ward who gave a real captain’s performance. The coaches were delighted by the quality of play and had several strong candidates pushing Luca.
St Albans City Youth Under 13 West 1-1 Berkhamsted Raiders U13 Red
The first game of 2022 and as pitches across the county were waterlogged after a week of heavy rain, this game went ahead having been reversed on to the Oaklands Astro for what turned out to be a beautiful if somewhat crisp day. Game on.
West started the better of the two sides with several breaks: an early chance for Lennon who broke but knocked the ball a little too far ahead, another that saw Rowan find Lennon with Eddie in support that saw a tight cross go out for the corner and a break from Jacko's battling that found Ollie who dinked a great pass to Eddie but the shot was wide. Another attack from West saw Lennon find Ollie for a strong strike just over and another that saw a throw-in find Lennon who crossed a great ball to Eddie but it just wouldn't fall for the shot. Finally, after all that pressure another throw-in found Lennon, who squared the ball to Ollie and again a nice pass to Eddie who found the net with his shot. 1-0.
The goal altered the game with Berkhamsted putting West under a long spell of pressure. There were occasional breaks from West though. Lennon bursting through and seeing his shot his the post and another West attack saw Kyri's powerful shot held by their keeper. Shortly after Berkhamsted went up the other end of the pitch but their shot well collected by Harvey. There was time for more West breaks as shots fell for Harvey M, Ollie and Mattie who hit a thunderbolt that was well saved. 1-0 Half time.
Berkhamsted started the second half the more lively, attacking down the left and crossing into the box, finding their player in the centre of the box who controlled the ball nicely before unleashing a shot and finding the net 1-1.
After the equaliser, the majority of the game saw battles in midfield without either keeper being too troubled. Berkhamsted perhaps looked the more dangerous and managed to win a penalty. Luckily for West the ball pinged of the post and the scores stayed deadlocked. West won a free kick shortly after and Noah's ball found Jacko who found Mattie but the hot was saved. Later, Jacko was involved again, his cross finding Eddie who's shot well saved by their keeper. Lennon continued to battle for the ball, dropping deeper to win the ball and burst forward on the right wing, passing to Jacko but his shot out for a goal kick. Once more West got forward, Eddie's ball to Jacko finding the keeper who had a strong game for Berkhamsted. Berkhamsted managed to win a free-kick late on but it was well marshalled out.
Full time 1-1. First game of the season - First point of the season.

St Albans City Youth Under 11 Lions v Wheathampstead Mako Sharks
The U11 Lions played in their HDL Alder division encounter with Wheathampstead U11 Mako Sharks but a performance to be proud of in cold & wet conditions.
After a close start the Mako Sharks and the Lions continued to battle, playing out from the back well under pressure and putting together some lovely attacking combinations together going forward. Player of the match was Stanley Seymour for a very composed and creative performance in the centre of midfield.
St Albans City Youth Under 9 East v Wheathampstead Sharks
East under 9 boys faced a strong Wheathampstead Sharks team at a wet and windy Nicholas Breakspear on Saturday. Both teams battled each other and the elements in a very close contest. The goals came from Jake Davenport and Thomas H while Louis Burt saw his thunderous free-kick smash down onto the line before it was cleared. Bertie Henson was imperious at the back, anticipating attacks with ease and helping to launch many of our counterattacks. Louis Burt was man of the match with a fantastic all round display and particularly good turning and early distribution.
