SATURDAY 20TH OCTOBER 1984 BASILDON UTD F.A. TROPHY 1ST Qualifying Round. Last Sunday October 14th saw the Under 11's win 7-2 against Emerald Vale after a very hard-fought match and they have now won all of their four matches in the Bushey League Cup in which saw them score 26 goals and only conceding only 5. the young Saints were 3-0 up at half time with goals from Andy KING, Marc ANDREWS(Sparky) and an own goal. Although Emerald Vale pulled two goals back the young Saints hit another four with Marc ANDREWS scoring another two to complete his hat-trick whilst Nick BENNETT and Richard LILL scored the other two. Squad: Andrew Hibberd, James Feakes, Michael Fletcher, Barry Edwards, Samuel Jones, Richard Lill, Owen Barrett, Richard Collins, Michael Hughes, Marc Andrews, Andrew King, Nick Bennett, Nicky Scott. Footnote: A few of these boys you might have seen around the outside of the pitch on First Team match days as Ball Boys and there should be a few around today.
SATURDAY 3RD NOVEMBER 1984 WALTON & HERSHAM SERVOWARM ISTHMIAN LEAGUE DIVISION 1. On Sunday October 28th the Under 11's were away to Abbots Youth in their first league match of the season and the match was a very exciting and it finally finished with score of seven goals apiece. The scoreline went as follows with the Saints score coming first, 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2, 3-3, 3-4, 3-5, 4-5, 4-6, 5-6, 5-7, 6-7, 7-7, wow what a game. The young Saints scored the equalizing goal with only a couple of minutes to go with the goalscorers for the Under 11's are Marc ANDREWS 2, Richard LILL 2, Andrew BURKE, Nicky SCOTT and one own goal. TUESDAY 6TH NOVEMBER 1984 BOREHAM WOOD HERTS CHARITY CUP SEMI-FINAL. The Under 11's lost their first match of the season on Sunday 4th November when they went down 2-1 to S & K Youth at home despite Andy KING giving them an early lead with a 20-yard dipping volley over the keeper's head. S & K equalized midway through the first half and it was only some brilliant goalkeeping from Rajive Samarasinhe that kept the score at 1-1 at half time. One of his saves was a splendid one-handed touch that kept out a certain goal as the ball came over from a well taken free kick from the left wing. In the second half the young Saints really put the pressure on but the ball just would not go in and S & K scored the winner on the break to make the final score 2-1 to the visitors Squad; Rajive Samarasinhe, James Feakes, Michael Fletcher, Owen Barrett, Richard Lill, Nicky Scott, Richard Collins, James West, Marc Andrews, Andrew King, Samuel Jones, Michael Hughes, Barry Edwards.
SATURDAY 8TH DECEMBER 1984 BROMLEY SERVOWARM ISTHMIAN LEAGUE DIVISION 1. Last Sunday 2nd December saw the Under 11's reach the semi-finals of the League Cup when they defeated Garston Boys at home by the score 4-1. Andy King hit the post early on in the match before Richard COLLINS gave the Saints the lead when he turned on the edge of the box and hit a well struck low drive home. Andy KING then made it 2-0 when after his first shot was blocked, he pounced on the loose ball and squeezed it home from an acute angle. In the second period Michael Hughes got the ball across for the second time after his first attempt was blocked but this time his second ball into the box was met by the head of Richard COLLINS who headed it home powerfully into the back of the net from close range. Andy KING also scored his second goal of the game when after a good run down the left wing whereupon his cross-cum-shot found the back of the net via the foot of the far post. Garston Boys pulled a goal back late on when they staged a late rally, but they found the young Saints keeper Andrew Hibberd in fine form between the sticks as he thwarted them a few times late on. This was a fine performance from all of the team. WEDNESDAY 26TH DECEMBER 1984 HERTFORD TOWN SERVOWARM ISTHMIAN LEAGUE DIVISION 1. The other Sunday December 23rd saw the Under 11's come back from being 1-0 down at half time to go on and win 2-1 with goals from James WEST and Marc (Sparky ANDREWS with the winner coming in the last minute following a great come back. TUESDAY 26TH FEBRUARY 1985 BOREHAM WOOD HERTS SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL REPLAY. The Under 11's on Sunday 23rd February could only field ten players and they were away to Hemel Aces in the quarter-final of the Challenge Cup and despite a good battling performance saw them lose 8-2. Richard LILL scored the first Saints goal with a effort off the far post whilst Andy KING got their second following a surging 30 yard run from Barry Edwards which was followed by a superb pass to King for him to score. The defeat could have been more if it were not for a brilliant performance in goal from Rajive Samarasinhe.
SATURDAY 27TH APRIL 1985 CHESHAM SERVOWARM ISTHMIAN LEAGUE DIVISION 1. On Sunday April 14th saw the Under 11's hold their presentation of awards for the season with every member of the squad receiving a Trophy which was presented by the Watford player Lee Taylor. Michael Hughes. The manager of the Under 11's Peter Bennett and also Mr Collins who was the referee at home matches received a trophy each whilst Mrs Scott and Mrs Lill both received a bunch of Flowers for all their hard work during the season.
FOOTNOTE MATCH REPORT FROM THE PROGRAMME AGAINST BASILDON UTD ON OCTOBER 20TH. On Sunday October 14th, 1984 saw the Under 12's have a great win when they beat Croxley Green Youth 15-1 in the County Cup. Scoring the goals for the young Saints were David YEO and Stephen HERBERT both with 5 goals each whilst the other scorers were Andrew ROBERTS 2, Adrian O'CONNOR, Luke SPENCER-WILSON and Nicholas BETTS.
