Ian Woods (Secretary's Report)

  • Apologies for giving people the wrong date for the club Presentation Day. The date for the event is 30th June.
  • We are still waiting for a few more trophies from last season to be handed in, trophies won in the West Herts Youth League last season can be kept.
  • Reminder for current Under 11 sides to consider plans for their move to Sunday football next season.
  • The entry for the annual St Albans Summer tournament has opened. City Youth teams don't need to pay for this event.
  • Reminder that if you move your matches to either Nicholas Breakspear School or Samuel Ryder Academy due to poor weather, the money paid isn't compensated by the club and has to be raised amongst the team. To book, please go through either letting team.

Robert Baker (Treasurer's Report)

  • Make sure that team expenses are in.
  • The club are still waiting for £20,000-£25,000 of subs to be handed in, a list of players yet to pay will be sent out to managers as a reminder.
  • The club will pay for entry to one summer tournament per team.

Laurence Wilson (Business Manager)

  • If there is bad weather and you have doubts as to if training facilities will be open, please contact the school or lettings team, not the club. For Samuel Ryder, contact Tom Johnson or Nicky Bunney and for Nicholas Breakspear, contact Ciaran Hennessey or Helen Day.
  • Nicholas Breakspear are providing free sessions after the season has finished to compensate for any training missed due to poor weather. This is likely to be the same for Samuel Ryder.
  • We are pleased to announce that the goal nets at Nicholas Breakspear have been replaced.
  • Herts FA are interested in running an FA Level 2 coaching course. Please get in touch if you are interested in participating in this.
  • The February half term coaching camp has been cancelled in preparation for a relaunch of the event in the Easter holidays.
  • Reminder for managers to check their FA accounts to see if their Emergency First Aid, Safeguarding and DBS checks are due to expire between now and next season.

Managers Reports

  • U8 Lions/Tigers: There has been a restructure in the Hertfordshire Development League leagues, meaning that there are less gaps. This has made games more even, however U8 Tigers are finding it harder to organise friendly matches.
  • U9 Girls: The team entered a county futsal festival and played a year up, narrowly missing out on progressing to the next round but giving a good account of themselves. The festival was in January for the first time in recent years and had a good structure.
  • U10 Wildcats: The team have played their first three matches and are progressing well.
  • U10 East: Referees have been pulling out of games with very little notice and it is becoming an issue.
  • U10 Romans: After the restructure of the leagues, the Romans have found their matches more competitive. Pitch six at Highfield Park is currently in a poor state.
  • U11 Wildcats: The team have played their first two matches and have narrowly lost them both. There has been interest from other players in joining the team but they are hesitant to bring any more on board and risk having too many players. Plenty of guidance was provided, Geoff Watts suggested that these players could train but not play in matches. Sunil Jagota added that parents may start complaining if they bring too many players to matchday and the players don't get enough game time. Jon Cassidy suggested that it may be worth waiting until they move to 9v9 next season as they could need more recruits. Chris Johnson reminded them that there are other local girls teams that may be looking for players.
  • U12 Orient: They have moved to the Watford Friendly League this season and so far have adapted well. The league is well organised and the sportsmanship shown by opposition teams has been excellent so far. The furthest teams may have to travel is to Muswell Hill.
  • EJA: The U14's recently beat Ware who usually have a very strong team. They went out of the cup on penalties to Cheshunt. The U16's have recently improved and are getting better as a result. The U18's have been unlucky in recent matches, they are however through to the County Cup quarter final. Getting to the final would be extremely difficult playing against many teams a year older than them. 
  • U18: There has been an ongoing problem with being assigned referees and coaches have frequently had to step in and officiate. It is a problem in youth football and is often down to referees receiving a lack of respect and being unwilling to coach that age group.

Any Other Business

  • Presentation Day: Jim Campbell is happy to help with the designing of the programme for the Presentation Day again. The first session will commence 1-1:30pm, this will be confirmed in an email.
  • The club are sad to announce the passing of ex City Youth manager Fred Miniken. Fred was a valued member of the St Albans family and it's a sad loss for the club.
  • The next meeting will be on Sunday 3rd March.
