Secretaries Report – Ian Woods

Cup Finals: Can teams that are in a final in the West Herts Youth League please send player details and a team photo into the league chairman

Goals at the School Pitches are beginning to be taken down. Greenwood park is expected to last until 22nd April and Verulamium playable until early May. Please tell Ian in advance about midweek fixtures so he can arrange pitches.

Presentation Day is on June 16th. Can teams send in pen pics, team photos and their player of the season when ready. The first session is for U8-U10 (plus U11 girls), the second session is for U11-U13 and the final session is for U14+ See Mervyn Morgan’s section for more info

Jon Davies is running this year’s Boys St Albans small sided tournament on 2nd-3rd June. This tournament has the potential to make large profits for the club and be a great weekend with inflatables and food stalls currently being approached. We hope that everybody helps out throughout the weekend to support the volunteers in setting up and taking down equipment.

Mid Herts League: There is doubt over the future of the Mid Herts Rural Minors league after the previous committee resigned. There is a new Charter Standard League being formed so there is a possibility sides may be moved into this league. Information will be given as soon as the club hear more.

Reminder to tell Ian if your team is no longer running next season.

Goalkeeper Coaching

St Albans City Youth are excited to announce a partnership with GK Icon to deliver our goalkeeping development centre.

GK Icon is one of the leading providers of goalkeeper specific training in the country. Created by a team of professional goalkeepers that pride themselves of delivering top quality sessions aimed to meet the needs of a modern day keeper.

Club keepers will receive a £5 discount on each session, while benefitting from the top quality curriculum GK Icon has to offer based around improving handling, distribution, agility, speed & saving technique; using the latest in goalkeeper tech and equipment.

The sessions are led by Dean Goodwin, who has over 10 years worth of experience working with junior to professional keepers from grassroots clubs to being head of Goalkeeping at Arsenal Ladies academy, holding his UEFA B outfield and goalkeeping coaching licenses. Dean will be working closely with our current club keeper coaches to help them develop & improve.

For the rest of the season sessions will remain on Friday nights at Nicholas Breakspear School, AL4 0TT. 6-7pm for Years 3-6 and 7-8pm for Years 7-10.

In addition to the benefits of having GK Icon run our goalkeeper development centre, City Youth keepers will also receive a £5 discount on any holiday camps put on by GK icon & be able to attend new coach & player development workshops planned for the new season for free.

New exciting changes to the goalkeeper development centre sessions will be announced in summer for the 18/19 season!

Equipment

With the end of the season approaching many teams are thinking ahead to next season and their equipment requirements. Remember until informed otherwise all equipment orders must come through Mervyn, they are then being managed by Minerva, when your orders are available you will be notified at which point you will need to collect from Minerva. Please collect them quickly as we do not want to clog up Minerva’s available space (they are doing us a favour).

Playing and Training Kit

As with equipment, many teams will be looking for new playing kit for next season, remember All Sponsored Kit orders are being handled by Louise Shepherd, Louise can be contacted via email on louise.shepherd@cityyouthfc.com

For ad-hoc kit orders (non-sponsored) such as training tops, sweatshirts etc these can be ordered and paid for direct from our new club web page on the Henry Tilly website, click on the Club Shop link on our website.

Safeguarding

The Safeguarding Course @ Nicholas Breakspear on 11th April is full

However, there are over dates available on the Herts FA website:

http://www.hertfordshirefa.com/coaches/development-and-courses/fa-safeguarding-children-workshop

The Guidelines for the online renewal process have been tweaked slightly, I have published a PDF of the new instructions on the clubs website, click this link:

https://www.cityyouthfc.co.uk/images/Safeguarding/how-to-access-the-online-safeguarding-children-recertification.pdf

Just another reminder please check that your Safeguarding certification is up to date, if not then please put it right. To check go to the Herts FA website and log into Members Services with your FAN Number.

Remember:

1. The individual stops any involvement as a coach until he has a valid DBS

2. If you have a parent who wishes to get more involved and wishes to help out then before the start they must have a DBS Check

For any of the above contact Ian or Mervyn to start the DBS process.

Several managers need to renew their First Aid Qualification, there are spaces available at a course taking place at the Gosling Sports Center, Stanborough Road, Welwyn, AL8 6XE on 16th April

Additional Welfare Office

As you will all know a club of the size of City Youth needs more than one trained Welfare officer, we currently have two (Ian Woods and Mervyn Morgan), I am pleased to announce that we will shortly be having a third, Chris Samways, one of the clubs Community Coaches has agreed to attend a Welfare Officers training course at the end of March.

Training Slots for Season 2018/19

Our new Business Manager Laurence Wilson will be starting work on next seasons training allocations shortly. Mervyn Morgan and Geoff Watts will be meeting with Laurence to discuss the process. One point I must highlight is that once slots have been agreed teams cannot change their mind and ask for a change, the process for this season was complicated by some teams asking for several changes, this makes the whole process unworkable. A word of warning, Laurence is a detail person, he will contact each manager, they must respond, if they don’t the team will be allocated a slot.

Highfield and NB Astro

A couple of points to make, teams using the Astro at Nicky B must pick up their own rubbish (water bottles etc). Also, remember Spectators are not allowed on the Astro.

At Highfield Park, the Pavilion light was left on from Saturday and today one of the Under 8 teams left empty water bottles by the side of the pitch.

Online Player Registration System

The new online system for Club Player Registration has gone well this season. Parents who paid via the two instalment option have had the second payment requested.

We will shortly be setting the system up for next season, a gentle reminder, please remember next season all registrations must be made using the online system (no exceptions).

Lawrence Levy

Lawrence Levy presentation an outline of the plans for the proposed new stadium development for St Albans City FC.

St Albans City are hoping that this exciting prospect will lead to the club having the equivalent of an elite academy within St Albans City Youth which will encourage players to stay rather than move elsewhere. The stadium also has the potential to be the home of St Albans City Youth, giving us a hub to base important matches, events and meetings. Everyone at the meeting gave the proposal their overwhelming support. Lawrence took a number of questions from the floor
