Herts FA U12 Cup Final St Albans City West v Stotfold Juniors

St Albans City Youth Under 12 West started the match on the front foot with a lot of possession in the opponents half. Stotfold weathered the initial storm and came more and more into the match with their lone centre forward looking threatening on the break. The St Albans goalkeeper, Max Emmet, was quickly off his line on more than one occasion to smother close range efforts. While St Albans struggled to create a scoring chance, the Stotfolds forward finally broke free and scored with a smart finish. Stotfold rattled the bar just before half time and were unlucky to only be a goal up at the break. St Albans started the second half with renewed vigour and were rewarded when Jack Cullen smashed in the equaliser from a free kick. St Albans strived to maintain their momentum and went close from a corner. Stotfold then worked a good opening from their own half and finished neatly in the corner. St Albans best efforts were thwarted by a steadfast defence. A firm strike from Stotfold took the score to 3-1 and secured a deserved win.

Under 10

City Youth Under 10 Victoria took part in the prestigious ESF Tournament at Butlins Bognor Regis this weekend. It was a brilliant start on Saturday winning our first 3 games (6-0, 1-0 & 3-1) scoring eleven goals and conceding one. Several of our goals were high quality team passing moves and finishes. Our final game on Saturday against Wheathampstead was very close and we were unfortunate not to snatch an equaliser in a dominant second half performance, going down 2-1 following a series of unbelievable saves by the opposition keeper.

This result set up a nervy winner takes all game on Sunday with a very strong Penns Colts side from Birmingham. Having watched these guys on Saturday and knowing they were finalists last year, we knew this would be a tough game but we matched them physically, played with great intensity and were unlucky to lose a first half goal. The second half
was a different story as our boys battled for the required equaliser and that all important point to take us through. We played the much better football and created chances, but when Martin Flore followed up an effort from Zak Davies and the ball agonisingly hit the inside of the post I guess we knew it wasn't going to be our day. The final game was another comfortable win as we eased past Predators 2-0. We ended with a record of P6 W4 L2 both losses by the odd goal to two very capable sides. To not qualify with 12 points was disappointing as our results would of won two of the other four U10 groups in the competition.

Well done to Reese Diri, Benjy Stone, Noor Dajani, Zak Davies, Archie Hobbs, Freddie Roe, Martin Flore and Oscar Bell for a super weekends football where they were all great ambassadors for St Albans City Youth.
