Coach Education Week 2016 Success at Nicky B

Level 1 Coaching Course Participants.

St Albans City Youth in the Community had a fantastic half term week training up new young coaches from St Albans District across a number of different sports..

The Young Coaches Programme forms part of the Coach Education Week () in association with The Herts FA, Herts Sports Partnership and Apex Multisport. It saw 20 new enthusiastic young coaches accredited as Community Sports Coaches.

Strategically the Club uses the Programme to help develop young people at the same time as it aims to keep more 14 to 18 year olds actively involved in sport. The 14 and 15 year olds complete a Sports Leaders Qualification while the older coaches are able to take a Level 1 Sports Certificate. These qualifications allow the young coaches to become useful members of the Community by supporting the City Youth School and Community activities.

Junior Sports Leaders Coaching Course Participants.

Community Coach Paul Spink said "I look forward to getting the additional support from the new coaches. It will help us to expand our existing programme"

A big thank you to the Herts FA for running the Level 1course and special thanks to Danielle Quelch, Football Coach & Referee Education Officer, for organising.

The Coach Education is supported by St Albans City FC and The Conference League Trust thanks to Community funding by The Premier League and PFA.

The Future Game

The Future Game, The FA Technical Guide for Young Player Development.

Two guides, one for the grassroots and one for the elite game, were published outlining a playing and coaching philosophy for the future of the English game.

The vision: players and coaches

The Future Game vision is intended for the whole game, with the same underpinning values applicable for coaches from grassroots to elite level.

A vision for players: To produce technically excellent and innovative players with exceptional decision-making skills

A vision for coaching: To train, develop, qualify and support more innovative coaches, who are excellent teachers of the game

Innovation is a theme embedded in both vision statements, underlining the aim for a more progressive and original approach to player and coach development, one which understands and predicts the trends and demands of the ever-changing modern game.

Goalkeeper Training at St. Albans City Youth FC

About Our Sessions

At St Albans City Youth, we recognise that goalkeepers have a huge role to play within any team. Therefore, we pride ourselves on giving our goalkeepers the opportunity to learn the skills required to achieve their own goals, whether that be pure enjoyment or to reach higher levels within football.

We centre our curriculum on three C’s…

  • Core Technique
  • Communication
  • Confidence
  • Updates on what we will be covering each week
  • A chance to see who’s action shot has won Save of the Week- within our sessions
  • The ability to have your questions answered directly by one of our coaches

In teaching and instilling these key requirements for any goalkeeper and aiding their transfer to game situations, we aim to nurture confidence within each goalkeeper to have faith in their own ability, despite the emotional roller coaster that being a goalkeeper entails.
