School Assembly Programme kicks off at Skyswood

St Albans City Youth in the Community re-started the St Albans School Assembly Programme in partnership with St Albans City FC.

Ben Kelly, Manager of the St Albans City Youth FC Disability Section, was able to describe his life experience this summer where he represented Special Olympics Team GB in USA. After overcoming a number of challenges Ben brought the Gold Medal back to St Albans and showing it off to the pupils.

Ben said "There was 60,000 people at the opening ceremony which was scary. The team trained hard for 2 years preparing for the event. This practice and classroom discussion meant that we pulled together and bonded as a team. We were pleased we worked closely together as this Team Spirit was much needed in the Final as Team GB were drawing 3-3 at the end of full time, still drawing at the end of extra time and then the game went into the dreaded penalties".

The rest is history as the City Youth Young Sports Leader Ben Kelly scored the winning penalty and was immediately bundled by his excited team.

The boys and girls from Skyswood School and Fleetville School were pleased as Ben personally invited them to attend the St Albans v Hayes & Yeading match on Saturday.

At Clarence Park for the match against Hayes Players from Skyswood School lined up with the City Youth Under 12's to welcome both teams onto the pitch for the game. All attending had a great time and the match finished 1 - 1.

This work in the Community is supported by The Premier League and PFA through The Football Conference League Trust.
