St Albans City Youth Community FC are excited to announce the appointment of a new Commercial Manager, Steve Mann. The role has been created to provide further impetus to the Club’s Fundraising and Sponsorship initiatives as it continues to grow and have a broadening influence in the wider St Albans community.
Steve joins City Youth after 28 years in Financial Services with some of the sectors most high-profile firms. Just as importantly, the father of two has a passion for grassroots football; he currently coaches two U18 teams at the Club, is an active youth Referee and Club Welfare Officer at St Albans City FC. Steve joins Charlie Boswell, who joined us in September on a full-time basis to grow our large-scale community programmes, and work closely with our coaches and managers to develop both them and our young stars of the future. UEFA B Licenced, Charlie has over 10 years’ experience in the field. Anthony Gosling, also UEFA B Licenced, is working alongside Charlie on a part-time basis. Both have come through our young coaches’ programme – a fantastic advert for the club.
When asked to comment on his appointment Steve responded, “I am both excited and honoured to have this new opportunity and keen to repay the faith the Trustees have shown in me. In partnership with the Trustees, the team managers and the committee I am looking to reach out to the City Youth family to support the many planned initiatives we have in the pipeline. However, equally as importantly we are looking to increase engagement with our existing and prospective Sponsors in the wider community. We are looking to develop real and lasting partnerships where our sponsors feel informed, included and appreciated and also see benefit for the financial commitment they have made when partnering with a club and charity of our scale, our Brand and reputation and the reach it has in our fantastic city.”
Steve begins his new role in January but is already working on rolling out a new ‘200 Club’, a club-wide Quiz Night and a Golf Day during the first quarter of 2020. Not only that, Steve is running a marathon by way of introduction to raise funds for the club! Sam Mardle, Chair of Trustees at City Youth commented, “Since becoming Chair, we have made it a priority as a Board of Trustees to prepare the football club and charity not only for today, but for tomorrow. Running an organisation who have engagement with around 1300 participants weekly, requires a huge amount of dedication – and I believe taking such a huge step forward will see the club and charity reap the rewards in the near future. We are delighted to welcome Steve on board and have to have secured someone of his calibre for the role. Having members of staff like Steve, Charlie & Anthony puts us in the premier position within the community to move us forwards. I have known both for several years; working with both closely in a voluntary capacity so I am well aware of their passion and professionalism, and am extremely excited for the future.”
