We are pleased to announce that Chris Samways, City Youth Community Manager and Herts Sports Partnership Sports Officer has been named as Community Coach of the Year at the 2018 St Albans City and District Sports Awards.
Chris has been with St Albans City Youth Football Club for a number of years, We are pleased to say that Chris is another product of the clubs young coaches programme.
He is now one of the clubs two Community Managers, supporting much of the clubs work in the community by working in Schools, running coaching sessions, ‘lunchtime’ and ‘after School’ clubs etc.
As part of his Community Coach role Chris has been supporting City Youth and St Albans City with the our School Assemblies programme (which is supported by a National league Trust grant) , visiting Schools and giving talks to the pupils about sport, fitness and healthy eating.
In addition to all of this Chris has performed wonders as part of the coaching team for the St Albans City Youth Disability Squad which consists of almost 70 players, this year the City Youth team coached by Chris reached the finals of the FA Peoples Cup, which was played at St Georges Park, the home of the England teams.
If anyone deserves recognition as the Male Community Coach of the Year then Chris is that person, over recent years he has grown in confidence and excels in a coaching environment bringing out the best in the players under his supervision.
I should also mention ‘Coach Education Week’, for the past two years the organisation for Coach Ed Week has been down to Chris, and what a fantastic job he has done, it is a thankless task trying to organise all the various sports to make coaching courses available during this period but Chris performed brilliantly. No one could have done better.
Well done Chris
