City Youth 40 year Anniversary Event - Report by Dave Tavener
City Youth held their 40th anniversary bash at Nicholas Breakspear School on Friday and, as is usually the case with the City Youth, it was a well run and highly successful event.
A couple of short speeches were given by Nick Perchard from the county FA and John O’Callaghan from the Herts Sports Partnership while Mervyn Morgan (youth chair of trustees) and Ian Woods also spoke using a microphone that actually works (unlike the one used in the SAC clubhouse).

In late January, a team of twenty local people, including three St Albans City Youth FC representatives took part in a charity trip to The Gambia. Club coaches Caroline Johnston, Sam Mardle, and Trustee Alan Moorhouse raised funds for the charity Football Gambia, a charity set up by City Youth U13s North Coach Ian Stapleton. Football Gambia’s mission statement is to ‘help promote education through football and develop communities in The Gambia.’
The trip’s main aim was to improve the lives of those living in Sittanunku, a particularly deprived area on the North Bank of the country. Whilst there, the team delivered a Level 1 Coaching Course to 60 local Gambian coaches and put on many Sports Leadership sessions for over 200 children.
Thanks to popular demand, we are pleased to announce that the girls football training will start again next Saturday 4th February 2012 at Garden Fields School in St Albans from 1.30 to 3pm

This training is open to all girls from Reception to Year 6 who are interested in developing their game or who would like to try the game for the first time.

Club Presentation Day
Albans Arena
17th June 2012

Record numbers attended the St Albans City Youth half term coaching last week at Highfield Park. The event forms part of St Albans City Youth in the Community which encourages young people to become coaches, working on Saturday mornings and during school holidays. The programme develops 14 to 18 year olds to become junior leaders and role models in the District. The club will be offering Xmas Holiday Coaching on 20th and 21st December.

Community Day 8 - Highfield Park
St Albans City Youth organised a Community Day at Highfield Park. This work forms part of their work in the Community helping young people to develop as Sports Coaches. Teams of people from O2 Telefónica UK Limited, St Albans City Youth and Oakland's College Special Needs Students were put through their paces by the staff from Highfield Park Trust. Over 50 people took part in delivering a Children's Play Area, a Memorial Site as well as gathering apples for the Highfield Park apple juice service. After the work was complete the participants were able to relax for a few minutes before taking part in mixed football games, organised by Tom Ward.
BSL Sign Language Course
17 young coaches from the County took part in a BSL Sign Language Course to help them to become better Community Coaches. The course was run by Jay Thomas-Morton with his "signing" expert Ruth.
