St Albans City Youth Match Reports w/e 22nd May 2016
St Albans City Youth FC - Boys
In their final season of Youth Football, the St Albans City Youth FC Under 18 Warriors achieved a Watford Friendly League and Cup double.
After several seasons of near relegation, the Warriors were crowned Watford Friendly League champions with an impressive unbeaten “Invincible type” record (only drawing one game) and winning the remaining 15 games, which resulted in them picking up the league title with one game remaining.
The league title was followed up by the Warriors winning the Watford Friendly League Spring Trophy with a 4 – 1 victory over Gregory’s United Jaguars thanks to goals from Stuart Peet 3 and Ben Smalley. Unlike many teams, 18 of the 19 of the squad come from one school, Beaumont, making their achievements even more impressive.
Manager Keith Glasscoe said “I have managed Warriors Since Under 6’s, I am incredibly proud that the lads wanted to carry on and their achievements in their final season of youth football have been sensational” … “it is entirely down to their teamwork and dedication, which has been awesome”.
The Under 18 West played Abbots Youth and drew 1 - 1 thanks to a goal from Yaku Stapleton. The man of the match went to Phil Allen.
The St Albans City Youth Under 13’s Central were in the West Herts Youth League Division 2 Play Off Final against Harpenden Colts Tornadoes
The Saints came out 5 – 4 winners, What a game. This was Liverpool v Dortmund all over! The Saints had a poor start, possibly nerves and went 2-0 down after just 25 minutes following a couple of defensive errors. Daniel Williams pulled a goal back for the Saints just before half time, so the Saints went into the break 2:1 down and feeling a lot better. In the second half we again started poorly and within 5 minutes went a further goal behind (3-1). This was the point where the Saints woke up (after a reality check) with 30 minutes to turn the game around and boy did they turn it around. Daniel Williams smashed 3 more goals in taking his total for the match to 4 and the game to 4-3 in our favour following a spectacular 10-minute spell. Then five minutes later Matty Bleakley gave the Saints the comfort of a two goal cushion with a spectacular strike from the right edge of the penalty area. The parents were delirious but the boys stayed focused until Harpenden stole a goal back leaving nervy 2 minutes to close out the game. Under 13 Central WHYL DIVISION 2 CHAMPIONS. Man of the Match MATTY BLEAKLEY.
The Under 12 East Yellow won the Green league after a 5 - 4 play off win after extra time (The score at full time was 4 - 4) over Echoes Orange. The goal scorers were William Miller 2, Brandon Trainis 2 and Tom Every.
After reaching the semi final of the Stevenage Borough tournament and being joint winners of the Highfield cup, City Youth Under 10 south continued there great run of form to reach the semi finals of the Luton Town Hatters Cup. Drawn in a tough group including Harpenden colts Hurricanes, Flitwick Eagles, Wixam Wanderers, Southside Power and Luton Tigers, the south progressed to the quarter finals with 3 wins, 1 draw and a single loss. The South team played a high quality passing game and scored some great team goals, especially in the 4-0 win over Southside Power. In the Quarter finals the south were draw against the winner of another group, the Luton Allstars Sharks. The south continued their high workrate to run out 1-0 winners and move to the semi finals for the second year running. Unfortunately just like the year before, despite playing the better football and dominating long periods of the semi-final, the south lost 1-0 to a long range free kick. The boys played their hearts out including having a defender make a last ditch effort to cleared one shot off the line, but it was not to be this time.
Well done to all the players.
