Futsal Opportunity for Girls

Due to demand St Albans City Youth are working with our partners at Francis Bacon School to create the first ever Futsal Centre for the St Albans District

Following the success of our recent introduction to Futsal last year, St Albans City Youth have organised further opportunities for the girls during the Easter Holidays and beyond.

Thanks to popular demand, we are pleased to announce that the girls football training will start again next Saturday 4th February 2012 at Garden Fields School in St Albans from 1.30 to 3pm

This training is open to all girls from Reception to Year 6 who are interested in developing their game or who would like to try the game for the first time.

St Albans City Youth Under 10's Girls team are raising money for their exchange trip to Ohio, USA.

They were very grateful to Lawrence Levy and everyone at the recent St Albans City v Peterborough Game for helping them to raise money for their trip.

Manager Chris Johnson said "Thank you to everyone who supported my team. Ledley King was spotted in the crowd and he was pleased to add his support to our project."

Girls U10 County Challenge Cup Final

Following on from last weeks 3 - 0 win over St Albans City South in the U10's Shield Final just a single goal won this game for the St Albans girls when Captain, Lauren Walker, scored in the 17th minute with a powerful shot that caught the keeper unawares.

The first half was all St Albans with 2 shots from Penny Bliss both of which were saved, sustained pressure in the first half should have led to more goals but good defending by Garston prevented more.

The second half was fast and exciting with more pressure from Garston but St Albans defended well and Hollie Kiff made a number of excellent saves. The teams were well supported with lots of vocal support for both sides from friends and family. A true Cup Final played between the best two teams in the League!

Well done to all the team for their fantastic achievements this season with winners medals in the Shield and County Cup Finals and runners up medals for the under 10's League Division One.

DISTRICT FOOTBALL REPORT Year 7 and Year 8

St Albans District Tournament Hosted By St Albans City Youth

On 7th February, the Year 7 and 8 Girl’s Football teams set out to Highfield Park to play in the District Tournament . I was in the Year 8 team and our first match was against Nicholas Breakspear. Our captain Emily Bentley kept our spirits high and by the seconds half it was 1-0 to STAGS with Ashleigh Johnson scoring. It stayed 1-0 which meant we were a step closer to getting a great victory.

Our second game was against Roundwood. They scored the first goal but Sabrina Illian equalised. It stayed 1-1 and we went through to the final on goal difference.

The final was against Marlborough. It was a tight game and they worked us very hard and subsequently one of their girls got a break away and smashed the ball over our keeper, Aimee Reid’s head. The half time whistle blew giving us a chance to get together and have a team talk. We set out for the second half in high hopes of at least a draw. Our wish came true and excellent passes between the midfield players gave the striker a shot at goal, 1-1! The final whistle blew and the referee gave us another 30 minutes extra time. There were so many chances to score at both ends but nobody could take them until I dribbled the ball, played a one two with one of our midfields and had a one on one between the keeper and I. She came closer to me giving me a chance to play it over her head. The ball went straight in the net and our team roared with happiness, we were district champions for the second year in a row. We were awarded with golden medals. Unfortunately our Year 7’s came a close second but I’m sure they put in as much effort as we did. We went home that day proud and with lots of hope for next year’s competition.
