Record numbers attended the St Albans City Youth half term coaching last week at Highfield Park. The event forms part of St Albans City Youth in the Community which encourages young people to become coaches, working on Saturday mornings and during school holidays. The programme develops 14 to 18 year olds to become junior leaders and role models in the District. The club will be offering Xmas Holiday Coaching on 20th and 21st December.
136 young people took part in the fun activities including 28 young coaches. The activities are supported by Active St Albans (Sportivate) and St Albans District Council.
Our aim is to progress the Coaches so they are ready to be assessed as Junior Sports Leaders and Level 1 Sports Coaches in February 2012. Included in the Coaching Teams were young Level 2 and Level 3 coaches who were able to assist the junior leaders. Harry Wheeler the club's top Football Coach is currently studying for his Level 4. If successful he will be one of the youngest people in the Country to achieve this high standard.
St Albans City Youth are including an Olympic theme to each of their events this season. On the Monday of half term ex World Champion BMX rider Mike Mullen entertained the boys and girls with some stunts. He was superb and enthused the children and coaches alike with his leaps.
Club Coaches Robbie Graham and Denzil Adoo (who had worked for the club for the last fortnight on work experience) are looking to introduce further Olympic themes in the coming months.
